National Geographic Magazine

The Next Breadbasket (2014)

In the third installment of its eight-month long Food series, National Geographic Magazine used EarthStat’s yield gap data to represent the areas where the greatest opportunities exist for increasing yields across the 17 major crop species of the world. The same data used in this map is available here on EarthStat. National Geographic Magazine also used EarthStat’s data on different crop uses in “A Five-Step Plan to Feed the World.” Also in 2014, in “Fertilized World” National Geographic used EarthStat fertilizer data to show where fertilizers and other crop nutrients are applied in excess of what is required.
